UNA MEJORA PARA EL POBLENOU
El proyecto requería la mejora, a partir del conocimiento de los edificios del Paseo Calvell, de las condiciones de habitabilidad y de relación con los espacios colindantes. En concreto y especialmente, la planta baja, la fachada posterior, los espacios de cubierta y la coronación de los edificios. También se planteaba resolver su conexión y relación con el antiguo barrio del Poble Nou, y lógicamente, con el litoral. Dentro del ámbito establecido, se proponen diversas zonas, donde se parecía destacarse una zona de aparcamiento cualificada como espacio verde. Se había de cumplir con el siguiente programa: A – Rehabilitación de los ocho edificios existentes “tupolevs” de, aproximadamente, 16.000 m2 construídos en conjunto. B – Construcción de nuevas viviendas, por un lado 30 de 40 m2 útiles, y por otro, 30 de 110 m2 útiles.
CONSTRUIR EN UN PARQUE: OCUPAR EL LITORAL
El proyecto plantea preguntas que, desde un inicio, desafían las reglas básicas de la superficie establecida por el ejercicio. Las nuevas construcciones ignoran el área potencial de construcción para, reconociendo las verdaderas oportunidades, saltar la carretera y comenzar su crecimiento en el gran parque del PobleNou, enfrentado al mar. Esta radical invasión se establece como una crítica a los grandes espacios verdes implantados frente a la costa de la ciudad de Barcelona, lugares carentes de sentido y uso, y plantea una reinterpretación del concepto “costa”. La manera en la que el proyecto plantea una comunidad niega la actitud contemporánea de espacios interiores y concretos, esa dictadura arquitectónica de “así y aquí”, donde la imaginación de las voluntades personales chocan con la realidad mediterránea y su clima. La comunidad se basa aquí pues, en el cruce, en la casualidad, la mirada, y sobre todo, en un gran espacio central descubierto, libre, abierto y mirando al mar.
UNA PLATAFORMA PARA UNIRLO TODO
La vivienda, que participa junto con la plataforma de manera decisiva, investiga a fondo una profundidad edificatoria escasa, permitiéndole extenderse como una membrana que encierra el espacio. Esta adhesión al sistema de plataformas permite ofrecer transformaciones expansivas en los interiores, generando ambigüedades en el uso.
El elemento fundamental de todo el proyecto será una plataforma metálica de 1.20m de anchura, con una altura que entra en simbiosis con el entorno, y un ritmo que se adapta sutilmente en el contacto con las construcciones. Su presencia se expone como un gran diafragma tensionado por los volúmenes que encierra o absorbe.
AN IMPROVEMENT FOR THE “POBLENOU”
The project required the improvement of the buildings located in Calvell Street Barcelona, specially the dwellings conditions and the relation with the surrounding spaces. The aim was to resolve the conection and the relation with the old part of the city, Poble Nou, and logically, with the coast. Within the set area, different plots are proposed for the new constructions. The plan included: A – The renewal of the eight bildings “called tupolevs”, with aproximatedly 16.000 m2 in total. B – The construction of new dwellings [30 new houses with 40 m2 and 30 new houses with 110 m2]
TO BUILD IN A PARK: OCCUPYING THE SEAFRONT
The project tries to raise questions that, from the beginning, defy the basic rules of the plot assumed by the exercice. The new constructions ignore the potential area of construction to, recognising the genuine opportunities, jump over the road and start growing up in the great park of Poble Nou, facing the sea. This radical invasion appears as a critic to the great green surfaces that were created in front of the coast of Barcelona in the 90’s, places with a lack of sense and use, and suggests a reinterpretation of the “coast” concept. The way in wich the project talks about community denies the contemporary attitude of indoor and specific spaces, that kind of architectonical dictatorship of the “like so and here”, where imagination of the personal wills crash with the mediterranean reality and its climate. The community relies here in the crossing, the coincidence, the gaze, and avobe all, in the huge central space, free, open from wich the sea is admired.
A PLATFORM TO BIND THEM ALL
The main element of this project will be a metal platform of 1.20 meters wide, with a 6 to 7 floors height it interacts with the enviroment and the existing buildings, and the rhythm adapts subtly to the contact with other constructions. The ensemble shows like a huge diaphragm tensed by the volumes wich are enclosed.
The dwelling, wich participates together with the platform in a decisive way, investigates a low depth construction type, allowing it to expand as a membrane wich encloses space. This adhesion to the platform system makes possible to offer expansive transformations in the dwellings interior, generating ambiguities in the uses.
